All I Can

All I Can would be the most remarkable ski movie I’ve ever seen. Filmed by the group of filmmakers that call themselves The Sherpas the All I Can is really a a two-year feature film project that just came out. As the Sherpas say: “Film fuses our passions for riding and exploring the mountains with our potential to help the environment. The film strives to unite global mountain culture and bind us with each other as the leaders of a revolution. We must be inspired to accomplish all we can for the environment, and we ought to master how to take that first tiny step in the right direction.”

The Directors Behind All I Can

Multi-award winning Directors Dave Mossop and Eric Crosland journey to Chile, Morocco, Alaska, BC and beyond.

The Riders Behind All I Can

Kye Petersen, Mark Abma, Eric Hjorleifson, JP Auclair, James Heim, Chris Rubens, Mike Douglas, Dana Flahr, Rory Bushfield, Ian McIntosh, Lynsey Dyer, Alexi Godbout, Matty Richard, Chad Sayers and much more.

Awards:

“BEST FEATURE-LENGTH MOUNTAIN FILM” – Banff Mountain Film Festival 2011, “BEST DOCUMENTARY” – IF3 Film Festival Montreal 2011, “MOST INNOVATIVE VISUAL FX” – IF3 Film Festival Montreal 2011

The movie hit the web not too long ago and stirred lots and lots of attention that even The Sherpas didn’t anticipate. Wonder why? Because journalists and web-sites that have no connection to skiing are posting it and calling it parkour skiing. Or possibly because it plain and simple kicks ass right down to the final segment when the bus goes uphill (that is true by the way, not staged). For an interview about this portion check Sherpas page :) .

Beginner Skiers On A Ski Vacation

There’s nothing to worry about if you don’t know how to ski, but your family wants to have a ski vacation. You can have lessons. You just need to get to the ski resort and learn there.

It’s really not that hard to learn how to ski. You’ll find that most ski resorts have ski schools. You can usually choose between group and private lessons. It would be a good idea to make an appointment before you get to the resort. This is to make sure that you can have your lessons as soon as you arrive.

Your first lesson would probably involve how to move around with your equipment. You tend to incline slightly forward when you wear ski boots, since this is the proper stance when you ski down a mountain. Walking in ski boots the first time is a bit difficult – but it works just fine if you learn to walk with your knees slightly bent.

You’ll be taught the plow or the snow plow maneuver first. It involves using your skis as a snow plow. You make the back of the skis slowing move outwards, away from your body by applying pressure – and this stops you. You can move left or right by bending your knees and leaning in one direction. All of these techniques can be learned in one hour, even if you have never been on a pair of skis in your life.

Once you have that down pat, you can go ski! Get on the lift, head up the mountain, and give it a try. You should go slow at first, and use the snow plow technique. When you want to pick up some speed, draw your skis back in to pick up a little speed, then push them back out into the plow position to control that speed.

Be sure to stay within the beginner trails. At most resorts, these trails are marked with a green emblem. You can proceed to intermediate trails, which are marked blue, after you finish a day at the beginner trails. The black trails are for experts. Only the expert skiers should go on these, since these can be very dangerous if you aren’t skilled enough. You should gain plenty of experience and instruction before going on those black trails. You will know when you are ready!
