Everyone loves to eat out when on vacation in New York, whether traveling solo or with friends / family. Unfortunately many people are scared off from New York City’s long lines and expensive costs, but it doesn’t have to be that way. There’s no reason why a meal in NYC can’t be reasonably priced and hassle free, you just have to know where to go.
1. Alice’s Tea Cup. “I give myself very good advice,” muses Alice in Lewis Carroll’s classic book, “but I very seldom follow it!” Here’s some good advice for you: visit this cute Wonderland-themed tea shop on a weekday before 10 a.m. to avoid a long wait. If you’re with your family and you have 6 people or more, you can make a reservation. Expect to spend $20-30 if you order set tea services, or around $10 a head if ordering a la carte.
Pluses: Cool atmosphere; good food – try the scone; large selection of hard to find teas.
Downsides – Service can take a while; Tea pots and cups can be breakable around kids; Only one toilet???
For good, family style pizza visit John’s Pizzeria (located in Times Square and on Bleeker St.). Their pizza is thin crust new york style and sold per pizza, not by slice like many other NYC pizza places. A whole cheese pizza with cost you around 12 bucks, which is pretty cheap, especially for New York. Don’t worry about your kids being too loud as the restaurant is always bustling, it’s a busy but fun atmosphere.
Thumbs Up: Really good pizza, good prices, and service is always fast and friendly.
Cons: hectic at peak times; small bathroom; overpriced drinks .
3. Fetch Bar & Grill. Are you vacationing or traveling with a pet dog? If so, you’ll love this Upper East Side restaurant’s pro-animals attitude, where dogs are served water on the patio. The menu offers standard American fare like burgers, steak rolls, and mashed potatoes, so everyone from Grandpa to Junior should be able to find something appealing. Your kids will be able to relax in a casual atmosphere. Just watch out they don’t convince you to adopt a dog over dinner!
Positives: Pets are welcome! Great Service! Servings are huge!
Cons: menu rarely changes; no free soda refills.
These restaurants should make eating in New York a lot simpler and certainly less expensive. You’ll know exactly what to expect when visiting, and you can save a few bucks while leaving with a stomach full of delicious and unique foods.
