One of the countless attributes that New York, New York is well known for are its many incredible museums. Most obviously there are the art museums like The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, and the Guggenheim, but there are also many other kinds of museums in Manhattan like the Natural History Museum and Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum.
What follows is a short description of the five museums I just mentioned so that you can find out which of these museums you would most like to visit when you go to Manhattan. Free entry to all five of these museums is a feature of the New York Pass.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art – This huge art history museum is usually referred to as just “The Met” and while it is primarily an art museum it is also really much more than just that. It is a wonderful place to check out for anyone who’s into history. The big drawback to this museum is also its biggest positive; it’s so big that it’s a little bit overwhelming. It’s impossible to really see everything in one day.
The Museum of Modern Art – The MoMA is aimed at people who are quite knowledgable about modern art. It features works by Henri Rousseau, Andy Warhol, Yoko Ono, and Salvador Dali. I would have to say that the MoMA isn’t as “kid friendly” as some of the others on here. If you have kids you may want to go to another museum.
The Guggenheim Museum – The Guggenheim is probably more well known for its incredible architectural design than the artwork within it. It was built by the architect Frank Lloyd Wright in the late 1950s. It is certainly worth going inside and checking it out (and of course the great artwork!) It is not as much of an overwhelming experience as the other art museums on the list.
The Natural History Museum – For most people I would say this should be the number one choice. Not only is it very “family friendly” but that I think it’s more interesting to a larger group of people. I really don’t see how anyone can’t be curious to see a dinosaur’s skeleton up close. It is amazing to stand next to the huge skeletons.
Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum – This is a very “kid friendly” place. Your kids will probably get a real kick out of seeing wax versions of famous people (both those alive and those no longer with us.) It is pretty enjoyable for adults as well. It’s a good choice if you’re in the mood to be silly rather than serious.
The New York Pass includes free tickets to all five of these tourist attractions.
Regardless of whether you want to visit any of these museums or not, you should definitely make use of the New York City Hotel Deals website to find the best deals on luxury hotels in New York.
